Knowledge can be said to be divided into two categories—on a very low resolution level: the first being intellectual or profane knowledge, and the second being sacred and metaphysical knowledge. While I have no problems criticizing the largesse of the material world, what I refer to as the Material Order, I don't consider material and intellectual knowledge to be bad or immoral in and of themselves, but I do consider their apparent application or misuse to be immoral, something you may read more about here.
I believe that a well rounded and fit man, really a man the seeks true insight, should allow himself to absorb and surely apply both of these aspects of knowledge in his life: indeed without the intellectual curiosity to explore and understand the material domain, there would be no light to sustain his urge to reach beyond the profane, his need really to enter onto the transcendental plane, to ascend above the material and the mundane. For most of the history of mankind knowledge was not something that one merely absorbed: knowledge was something that came with with experience and the application of previous experience in the material world with the object to understand the whole of the creation, but this is really the missing link in the modern world, for modern men do not seek to become more well rounded or more astute in their appreciation of the creation; instead modern men seek to impose the material order as really a "package deal" onto the rest of the world. Indeed, what is this modern kind or flavor of imperialism like: well it's like a package deal and it's always claimed that white men come in peace and that they only seek to deliver a win-win deal, something you may also read about here. When you seek the true enlightenment, you seek to transcend beyond the material: beyond lust, beyond will, beyond the material order and this requires of you skillful means, and skillful means is what you acquire when you actually understand the world, when you apply knowledge in the material domain, and while this may be a Buddhist concept you can find similar descriptions of this process in all the major metaphysical traditions of the world, including to a very limited extent even among many atheist and secular people, but do keep in mind that their conception of skillful means is a bastardization fit to serve the material interests of the revolutionary elite; these false prophets and charlatans may even come in religious attire, a subject that I intend to cover at another time. It's hard for me to describe true knowledge but you should think about it like this: before you learn how to fish you need to gain a certain awareness of that aspect of the world, and this can be done through mere intellectual exercises such as reading a book, and in the case of learning a skill like fishing you should most likely be able to gain at least superficial knowledge and skills in this domain, but to learn on a very profound level the art of fishing you need to go beyond the material, and here's where true and sacred knowledge plays an important role, and once you are able to combine these two aspects of knowledge you may say that you apply skillful means to your fishing. Now, many things and enterprises in the material world are indeed harsh and you will likely fail, but without knowledge beyond the profane you will never be truly skilled; you may be good or even fantastic but by only limiting yourself to the profane and the merely intellectual you're limiting your horizon and the circumstance that you may perhaps be the most skilled man in that particular field or aspect of life in the material domain is most likely due to the fact that you have faced no real competition. Of course, these kinds of limitations that I believe that you can almost sense serve two purposes: they serve to ground you in the material domain and to keep you inside the material order, to have you never reach beyond; and they serve to create a false notion of security, a sense that you have reached the summit of the mountain and seen everything there is to see and know about the world. Indeed, this is understandable, certainly in the commotion of the modern world, but be sure that you're missing out on profound insight; everything cannot be understood by merely understanding the material aspects of the world and this is really one of the primary causes of the diseased mindset going on today.
I can't offer anything material and concrete, even though your beastly form screams for easy-to-follow guidance, but I do call upon any man that is willing to seek the light to embrace meditation, something I have covered in the past, here and here. But when it comes to meditation it's always important to keep in mind the purpose of this exercise and that meditation while being able to break the stress cycle of the modern world always serves a higher and more transcendental purpose. There are many schools of thought when it comes to the precise application of meditation, but the two most general ways of meditation are the Samatha and Vipassana forms of meditation, and without going into any great detail you can essentially think Samatha meditation as the first step towards understanding and gaining skillful means with meditation, and Vipassana as the form of meditation that really can open your world to the transcendental plane, if you are willing to actually seek the light. Of course, none of these things such as meditation will do you any good if you are unwilling to let the material domain and the material order go; they may bring you temporary and always fleeting calm but they won't transform you away from the beastly form, and in fact if you rely on sacred knowledge and techniques such as meditation to cope with the material domain you may actually end up using meditation to further ground you in the material order, something that really is counterproductive. Beyond meditation there are many other ways of understanding the world beyond the profane, described in all of the major metaphysical traditions, and these could include such things as Kabbalah, Sufism, and certain forms of esoteric practices that for the moment are outside the scope of this blog.
In the end, only you can take the first step towards the light and towards true liberation. Yes, this is a very personal journey but it's never an individualistic journey; it's a journey made by men of ascendant rank, men actually willing to restore the scales of the celestial order, men that actually oppose the tendencies of the Kali Yuga but also understand the Kali Yuga.
