My views on sleep |
Friday – November 28, 2025
Yes, I believe that sleep, from a purely material point of view, is important and it does seem to me that most people in the modern world lack enough sleep and even if they receive enough sleep they more often than not are not receiving good sleep. I do believe that it is true to say that people who sleep poorly live shorter lives and end up developing major diseases earlier. I do also believe that it is true to say that most people that live past the age of 100 age more slowly, which is something that can be achieved, at least partially, by receiving enough sleep. Of course, I recognize that most people are trying to navigate the material domain, practically a minefield, and that the pressure of performing, against the whole world these days, often means for many people that they end up not receiving enough sleep. Of course, sleep in and of itself is a profoundly material need: your body needs to sleep because if it isn't allowed to sleep it will eventually fade away. I think that some experts claim that a normal person needs to sleep about 8.5 hours and that may or may not be true. I think that a person should sleep until they naturally wake up. I must admit that I find this notion of having to be woken up rather bizarre. It just seems to me that if you're still asleep that you probably need to sleep more. But of course, in our world it makes perfect sense that you have to be woken up, because you likely have an appointment to "catch" as they say. In certain other parts of the world they also have to peculiar practice of changing back and forth the time: of course the so-called standard time is winter time, but people have convinced themselves that they need to get more sunlight, which isn't true because the Sun doesn't stay up one hour more just because you want more sunlight. No, there's a mass psychosis where people just pretend that it's now summertime, but that's a thing that you've been trained to do since you were young. Yes, materialist order relies on mass psychosis and time is perhaps the most ingenious product to come out of this peculiar time in history. By time I'm simply referring to the concept that society is and/or should be tied or dependent on time, which is a fairly recent invention. Of course, in the past people accepted their fate much more and they also as a consequence had a great deal more patience and ability to wait for the good stuff in life. But today people need to make a profit, and the best way of producing evermore profit and greater profits is by simply making everything dependent on time, which in and of itself has become a rather totalitarian thing. Do you need to catch an appointment? I am not trying to be obtuse here: I understand that time has always existed in the collective sub conscience of humanity, at least as long as humanity has existed on this plane, but I do believe that time has become increasingly used against people's freedom. But back to sleep: I believe that people likely received a better quality sleep in the distant past and I believe that many of the mental problems that modern men face are dependent, to some extent, on their lack of sleep. I believe that men in the past likely acted with more vigor and strength because of quality sleep. I also believe that the notion of only receiving 4 hours of sleep and still being active and good is complete and utter nonsense. In fact, most people that claim this are nothing but charlatans that want to earn money on your suffering or because they are profoundly mistaken and are inhabiting an alternate reality, which seems more common than not these days. At any rate, if you don't receive enough sleep you will fade away quicker. While I don't hold any advice I guess I can say this: I think it's clear that you should probably attempt to just wake up when your body tells you to wake up. Maybe you could put an alarm on, but do remember that for each alarm you use, you will receive less sleep and you will likely heighten your own anxiety and stress which can really work on your heart. This is also why I am so opposed to the concept of public transportation.
Again, I don't offer any advice on how you should sleep, but I do believe that if you can just wake up when your body tells you to wake up then you will be better off, which means that you may actually take a step back or away from your beastly form. I also believe that sleeping can be an act of rebellion, an act of rebellion against the materialist order.
