My views on personal safety |
Thursday – December 18, 2025

In my post "How do you live in security" I wrote about the need to always be aware of your surroundings, especially when you are outside the comfort of a familiar place. In our world, there are many dangers and many problems waiting around any corner, and sure you may feel safe because you haven't been affected by the statistical hysteria of the populist horde, because after all these things don't tend to happen very often, I am referring to rape, murder, robbery, manslaughter, and violence in general. While this may be true from a statistical point of view, I refuse to deny or lie about reality, you mustn't let this inoculate you to those real dangers of the material domain. The truth is that as long as you aren't completely sealed off from the world, there will be things out there that seek to take you down. This is why I am as strong advocate of self-defense, on a profoundly personal level, because if you do not have the ability to fend off a threat physically, you won't be able to defend yourself against the state and the serpent, and on a very metaphysical level your inability to defend yourself and those qualities of life that you value the most is really something that puts a very large stain on your sacred honor as a man, and something that most major metaphysical traditions emphasize is indeed that you may not be violent without good reason, and I have decided to refer to this outlook as the pacific route. Do you like the fact that you are weak and unable to fend off threats? Probably not, unless you've assumed the most advanced form of the beast, and in which case you may be beyond the pale, a topic that I intend to cover at another time. I do need to also add that the beast that you have become is a really rather low beast: he's a beast only able to cannibalize himself and his surroundings, he's in a lot of ways what many Islamic scholars use as an explanation to why it is immoral to consume pork. You may be a giant beast, sure, but you're a very large beast and the pork is just wobbling around as you make your every move; indeed the pork is slowly turning you into a very black hole. So yes, there are material reasons as to why any man should learn to defend himself and really his honor, but I hold that the metaphysical reasons are far more important, and any man of ascendant rank knows this: self-defense is not about aggression and violence, it's about a certain gravitas and a certain aura that any man that can be proud to call himself a man acquires, and once he has embraced this form there is no going back, which means that a man that is able to defend himself is also far more grounded, both materially and metaphysically; this man does not suffer from mental illness, because yes these things tend to coexist and they tend to affect your body and your mind in the same ways. I also believe that the ability to defend yourself makes you able to walk with a purpose in the world; it provides you an ability to walk and then keep walking until you have reached your goal. Indeed, mental health cannot be underestimated when it comes to your ability to defend yourself, especially not in this very and increasingly messed up and deteriorating world.
I believe that a proper ability to defend yourself always begins  as I just mentioned with mental health, but again these things coexist and they depend on each other: without physical health you may not have mental health and without mental health you may not have physical health. Of course, the question then becomes where should I begin? I believe that it's always more prudent, especially today, to begin with taking care of your physical health, because the world is simply too noise polluted, but yes meditation could also be a good start. I believe that you should always fast and I believe that you should make sure to avoid, with great vigor and high consistency, any and all immoral food. I also believe that you should begin to learn the basic principles of martial arts: this could include anything from karate to Krav Maga. I do not believe however that street fighting is good for your conscience and for your soul, but if you intend to learn and engage with street fighting you should also learn the basic principles of that particular form of self-defense. I also believe that you need to learn to adapt to a far more heightened and alert sense of your surroundings: indeed you need to learn to profile your surroundings and this does include other people. I won't go into any great details about profiling, but the basic principles are these: you need to gain a certain awareness about the normal baseline of behavior of the particular milieu that you are assessing, and then you need to compare each individual within range to that baseline, and if someone is clearly acting in a way which does not align with this baseline you should always make sure to avoid theses people; if you are assessing someone you do need to be aware that some people will always fall under the radar and these people will more often than not be men and young, which means that generally speaking young men will pose a heightened risk, but a young woman would in comparison to say an old woman also pose a heightened risk to your physical safety; and the last thing I want to add about profiling is simply that the material world is far too large and far too dangerous and this means that if you happen to offend someone this is a worth price to pay compared to not taking warning signals seriously. Indeed, in order to fully grasp the basic principles of self-defense you do need to be able to adapt a more well rounded outlook and more refined abilities, because self-defense is actually far more about intellect than anything physical; the physical aspect of self-defense is really just the last resort you should consider.
The last thing about self-defense that I want to add is this: if you find yourself in a situation where some assailant or potential would-be assailant has a gun and/or some other weapon the dynamics of the entire situation does shift and this means that the advice that I have provided in this post may not apply. I do not recommend that you try to in any way intervene in a situation where there are weapons involved: instead you should seek shelter and you should use your ability to assess the risks of the situation to find this shelter.
Indeed, the material domain is a harsh and unforgiving place, but this is also something that one has to deal with, at least I did when I was in the world.
