Returning?

Photograph of the Amphitheatre in Side By M. C. Dutt Returning? Tuesday – August 25, 2026 R eturning? Returning to the past, is it possible? If you are not interested in reading most of this post then I will deliver the short answer here: no, it is quite impossible to return to the past, and if you attempted to do this you would fail and become even more discouraged; in fact, I can only warn you against this stupid endeavour. Now, the longer answer will naturally be more long winded but it will also, at least hopefully, be much more satisfying. Well, I should admit that longer answers often are not more satisfying, except maye to the ego .     All jokes, not that I tend to joke much, aside, there is not point in attempting a kind of "return to the past" for multiple reasons: number one, the past is in the past for a reason, read " The End of History "; number two, it would actually be undesirable for most people to live in a bygone era or period; and number three, I...

How Should Enemies be Dealt With?

Hindu ( ॐ ) depiction f Lakshmi ( लक्ष्मी ) surrounded by two elephants ( गज ) How Should Enemies be Dealt With? Monday – August 24, 2026 S hould enemies be treated with contempt, should they be shown any kind of mercy? These are questions that are very current, and I suppose that they have been with us for some time when we consider the history of the previous couple of centuries . Now, some may say that indeed, you must slay each and every enemy, that you must treat them like vermin, that you must suffocate the air until you have reached the good graces of every single one of them, really until you have eliminated each and everyone of your enemy, until the air has become your domain. Now, this would perhaps be in keeping with the Code of Hammurabi, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. But I would perhaps attempt to hedge between the Code of Hammurabi and basic human decency, not from a do-good liberal perspective , but from a traditional perspective, a perspective of a kind of sol...

Bible Study, Part 9

Image
Creation of Light ( אוֹר ) By Gustave Doré Genesis, Chapter 9 | Sunday – August 23, 2026 N ames and lineage are important, read " Hierarchy ", and they are certainly important in the Bible and in the story of Genesis, for they provide both an account and a connection; they help us understand our place in the world, and they bind us to this place, to each of our stations. Even if we consider ourselves completely autonomous and liberated from the story, from our story, this would still never be enough to escape, to escape the circumstance of each of our creation. It may be fancy to proclaim how each of us just "happened" to be born into our bodies and into our lives, but the fact is, read " Never Trust Your Body! ", that each of us are here only because of us; you can not be someone else, nor could you have been someone else. It is not simply a matter of chance that you ended up being the person that you are. Be it millions or billions of years, read " ...

The Archean Eon

Hindu ( ॐ ) depiction of Shiva ( शिव ) slays Andhaka ( अन्धकार ) The Archean Eon | Saturday – August 22, 2026 B eginning with what profane science (geology specifically) describes as the Archean Eon , I have decided to attempt to outline the many theories surrounding the early Earth. Why is it, for instance, that we have oxygen on the planet today? Or why did life appear on Earth in the first place? Well, to answer that first question, I suppose the scientific consensus is that at some point a bacteria known as Cyanobacteria appeared in the late Archean Eon, and this bacteria, not an Archaea, was capable, and indeed is still capable, of producing oxygen, through a mechanism called photosynthesis, read " Mechanism ", and this mechanism is also something that is still ongoing. Now, none of this appears to be in dispute, although there are some people who we may call "crackpots" who claim differently. Of course, I the Archean Eon lasted for about 1.5 billion years, whi...
