"Hobbies" |

Hobbies... What are they any good for? Well, to begin this little post I guess I should attempt to define or delimit what I mean by "hobbies" (hobby sing.): by hobbies or by a "hobby", I simply mean some kind of activity that a person engages in and that is not connected to their profession, in the modern and industrial sense, and typically this activity, the hobby, revolves around doing stuff that the individual enjoys, such as watching television programs, blogging, reading news papers, playing video games, listening to radios, playing sports, etc; truly the word "preference" could be included in this connection as well, although there is a difference between the simple individualism of mere preferences and the somewhat rudimentary metaphysics of having a hobby. Yes, there is surely something individualistic about having a hobby and about preferring to spend time on something completely material, but the truth in this regard is of course much more complicated as the preference of a hobby in and of itself is more than a preference; really you could say that often what appears to be a preference for a hobby, maybe just to waste time, is really a strong inclination, but only under certain circumstances, and it should of course be noted that many things that pass for hobbies in no way constitute something metaphysical, even in a rudimentary sense. This inclination has a certain basis in the metaphysical order of things, and could be understood as an indicator of certain aptitudes, but again only from a somewhat metaphysical point of view, and I believe the fact that most people seldom seek to earn money from their hobbies is a very good indicator of this. See, in the modern world people earn wages and they hold jobs, but for most of history there was simply no difference between the individual love for his own domain and the vocation; they existed in a masterful synthesis, read "Qualification". The concept of holding a job is a true monstrosity, and very few men can truly admit that they love their profession, or even that they particularly exist in tune with their profession. So, it is hopefully clear from this that there is a fairly large difference between a hobby and a preference, but where should a profession be placed within this context? Well, I would suggest that you follow the money, if you are to understand why someone may have chosen their particular profession, because for the most part people will prioritize the materialism they may gain from their profession, not their relation to the cosmological order. Of course, there are very few true "masterpieces" to be spoken of today, but I do believe that a true hobby or interest could be a certain "indicator". I should add that I do not prefer to use the very material word indicator, as I am attempting to deal with something beyond the material order here, but for the purpose of this post the word "indicate" will suffice, but again I am not referring to the materialism of "indicate" as in some kind of suggestion; truly the metaphysical conception of "indicate" would be something much more akin to the concept of divine instruction, but I am unable to proceed further with such deliberations as they are well outside the scope of this post. I should, again, also clarify that certain activities that fall within the range or scope of a "hobby" are not considered in this context, and such activities typically lack a certain emotional and intellectual rigor; one such activity could be the aforementioned inactivity of watching television programming, unless this is carried out in a somewhat methodical manner. Again, I am not able to define in any strict sense what may fall within the range of a hobby, in the colloquial sense, but nonetheless escape the attention of this post, but generally such activities are actually the opposite of activity – inactivity. Of course, in the modern world people are very used to rely on words in a fairly amusing way, and it is a distinctly modern attitude that has allowed for this degeneration of language that has enabled the description of something that is quite the opposite of what the word truly means to describe, and this is, again, most striking in how antonyms have been allowed to become synonyms. I should clarify that the words themselves often remain antonyms, but the way that certain behaviors in particular are described tend to take on an almost antithetical meaning, such as in the corruption of the term activity starting to imply inactivity, or the other way around. It is easy to get lost in the grammar, and truly I am not much of a proponent of grammar anyways, and, as I have covered in the past, language should be qualified.
In terms of myself, read "Personal Notes series", I do not intend to reveal if I have any hobbies or not, and if I indeed have hobbies, what those could be, read "Who am I". I guess you could say that me writing these blog post constitutes a hobby, and I agree, but from my point of view, read my "About me" page, this is not a hobby in the colloquial sense, as I am guided by the supra-rational in this pursuit, again read my "About me" page. I will state that I do take interest in particular things in life more so than others, and for me this is a way of cultivating knowledge, in both the sensible way and in the supra-rational way; I should add that knowledge in the sensible way is not truly knowledge, but more on that at another time.
I suggest that if you do intend feel inclined towards certain activities—again activities not inactivates—then you should allow this inclination to guide you toward the hidden structures of the universe; truly a hobby or a inclination should be used to guide you toward the light, to guide you towards the center of the creation, and this is what could make your truly masterful. If you happen to enjoy something, then this may not be a random occurrence, and if you allow yourself to be guided in the right direction you are likely to get closer to your rightful domain.
This post was not my best, but at least I attempted to describe something, although in a very poor manner. I may cover this subject again at another time.
