Intelligence has never been a subject that I have cared too much about, mostly because I believe that I do not quite understand what intelligence is and what could be done with it. Intelligence also strikes me as a rather secular invention, meant to create or instil a kind of pseudo hierarchy on the world, an inverted hierarchy where the games of some kind of darwinian and material order takes precedence above all else. Well, this kind of thing really does not interest me, but then there is the curious concept these days of "artificial intelligence", which is a step even further away from something quite normal and towards something degenerated and deviated. Before I make some observations here about what I actually think about artificial intelligence, allow me to first attempt to define what intelligence actually is. It seems that intelligence, from a purely material point of view, is something that appears to amount to being able to solve puzzles and win games, really being able to learn and to quickly integrate that learning into a larger picture in a meaningful way. Then there is the concept of an IQ, which is an attempt to quantify this essential quality about a person, and there is an ongoing debate and dispute about the concept of IQ, and of it is really a useful measurement, but for the purposes of this post, I have decided that yes, IQ is useful; IQ is useful, because we are here dealing in the corporeal realm and with things that are purely material, and so attempting to quantify intelligence is completely within the range of this post, for I need to be able to operate within the system that I am forced to live under, anything else would be macabre in my view, and quite unuseful.

    So again, if intelligence indeed means that a human being is capable of using abstract thought to generate useful and meaningful ideas that can be used in the material world to effectively solve some problem, then one could refer to this person as intelligent, and it is also then highly probable that this person should have a higher IQ, and indeed there are some profane scientific sources to back this up.* In terms of human material attainment and achievement, it would then seem that IQ is a pretty important quantity, and really a number that may end up being the difference between a failed life and a successful life, again here only from a material point of view. Since we only assume that IQ and intelligence are quantitative, our assumptions are bound to become more and more erroneous the further away we take these aspects of the human condition and apply them when we attempt to measure the worth of any man, read "Mechanical Procedures", and this is perhaps why it is notable that a certain painful and very obvious mismatch, a dissonance really, exists between the concept of intelligence and wisdom, true wisdom; for a person can certainly be very wise and knowledgeable, without for that reason having much cognitive advantage over others.

    Yes, these are seemingly truths or close approximations, and a good thing too since we are dealing with material matters, which then brings me to the overall point that I am trying to make with this post, namely why I believe that artificial intelligence is quite impossible, at any rate in a meaningful way. Yes, you can say that a computer could solve a mathematical and numerical problem faster and at a greater precision than a human being, and this would perhaps even be just as well, but you cannot say that the computer holds any kind of useful or, for that matter, meaningful understanding over humans. No, so far a computer, an artificial intelligence, can only create conjectures that are perfectly predictable and measurable, and in this sense you may argue that an artificial intelligence is the attempt to bring the completeness of the numbers into being, into the real world. Yes, why not? Why not create an artificial and even virtual intelligence? But what kind of intelligence is this? Is intelligence only about number, and conjecture? If this is all we care to define intelligence as, then sure, I suppose that a computer could be more intelligent and even more useful than a human being, and close to perfect, without any gaps, at solving numerical problems, but then again, everything cannot be measured, everything cannot be brought down to the quantifiable level, really to the infrahuman level. Even the assumption that the numbers must be complete and that no gaps in the number line could be acceptable is still quite erroneous, and this appears as well to assume that we are in control of the universe, and that we can define the universe after our will, and yet we may choose to call this objective. Yes, I am gathering that something is missing in this whole unreason, namely the concept of Cartesian Dualism, and in which case we are made to accept René Descartes material and mechanical model of the universe (res extensa) without being able to also accept the human mind (res cogitans), read "Theory of Mind". This contradiction has to be resolved somehow, or the human mind has to be completely dismissed, which also means that we may as well discard the notion of humanity all together, and simply sublimate into something posthuman, something completely beyond these seemingly arbitrary constraints of our condition, our place in the world, read "Transhumanism". Really, what is the point of Cogito, Ergo Sum? If the human mind is the highest form of attainment, or at any rate it used to be, then why should we not be replaced by an artificial mind, and above all, what is it that separates our mind from an artificial mind?

    The assumption that the world and that the mind can be separated is erroneous to begin with, and if indeed humanity should continue down this path, then only time can tell, and I suppose that it would not be a great leap to assume the worst, at any rate from a human point of view, whatever human should mean under these circumstances. I should add that I still do not have many comments on artificial intelligence, as I am not yet familiar enough with this topic, but I will say that if it is the case that artificial intelligence can be used to solve unsolvable problems, which I maintain is still not possible, then it would also seem that only artificial intelligence itself could set its own bounds, which indeed cold become a grave danger to humanity and all the notions of "social progress". If this error began with René Descartes assumption that the world could be divided into a kind of dualism of something human and something material, it may very well end with the complete destruction not only of the divine, but of humanity itself.
