End times... Is the world coming to an end? Why would the world come to an end? Is it necessary for the world to come to an end? First of all, let us try to understand what people, most people, mean by "the world is coming to an end". It seems fairly clear to me that for most modern people, the modern world ending is about the same thing as the entire world coming to an end, and this means that we should try to put into perspective what a world at the end really would mean, read "The End of History". For most people, the end of the world does not mean a great Armageddon, it does not mean the complete and irrevocable destruction of all life on Earth. No, for most people the end of the world is far less destructive than that: for most people something as seemingly harmless as not being able to binge eat, read "Should Anorexia Become Normalized" and "Addiction", is considered the end of the world; often not being able to assume comfort in every moment is considered so unbearable that is has to constitute a disintegration so vast that it can only be tantamount to the end of the world, and indeed for them this is the end of the world, the end of the world as they know it. So, yes there is such a thing as the end of the world, at least for some people, but of course, then there is the real end of the world, as described in all the great primordial traditions in the world, and they all share the same theme. The question then becomes, are we living in the end times? Yes and no. I know, that answer is usually not a very good answer and a lot of people will not be happy with both a yes and a now, but the truth is that yes, we are currently living in the last cycle of the manifestation, the Kali Yuga, but this cycle is still long and hard, and the end of the cycle itself is seemingly always near, and this is why the end of the world, the end of great civilizations, have been such a running theme throughout recorded history, but even to profane science, there is such a thing as an end to the world, but of course this end is so far afield that only abstract astronomical numbers can describe this time; usually profane science will estimate that the Sun will explode in great fire and fury in about 5 billion (5 thousand million) years! What is 5 million, let alone 5 billion, worth to the living, and even to the dead? Not much at all, and so the issue really does not need to be content with, and I guess this is why most people still avoid raising the issue; the end of the world may therefore only be brought about by humanity herself, as the forces of the cosmos are clearly quite uninterested and unimpressed by the machinations of humanity on Earth. Why would God cause great destruction to the world, when humanity does not require his permission? At least this is the attitude of most moderns – quite an outrageous outlook! But it is actually enough to only be concerned with the materialism of our age as the destruction of this, the fall of the material order, is enough to end the world as we know it, and really to usher in the new dawn, the Golden Age, read "Essentials for the Golden Age". Also, within the Abrahamic corpus, particularly within Christianity, there is some emphasis put on the book of revelation, typically more so within Protestantism, but I believe this to be a mistake, and actually it would be more prudent to pay attention to the old testament, read "My Views on Fundamentalism". What is understood as "the end times" in the book of revelation corresponds much more to the time immediately proceeding from the celestial paradise, but more on that would carry this post way out yonder and into the blue. What Christians need to understand is doctrine, not fundamentalist dogma, and it would be more prudent as well to focus on qualification and skill, not on hysterical and, far too often, political proselytization; lastly I would point towards the hordes of Gog and Magog as corresponding much more to our present times. Besides, whenever something appears to be beyond reach—really beyond infinity, if infinity is allowed to constitute the limit of profane sensibility—this is a fairly good indication that the time is not ripe yet, but again more on that at another time.
The fact then, that the world always appears to be falling apart is something quite significant, read "Disease and Decay", of our times, and this is because nothing can ever be allowed to propagate from principle towards substance, everything has to propagate from substance without principle to substance without principle, and the effect of this can only be a veritable chaos, a noise that permeates every aspect of the corporeal world, and in the end only the signature of creation, heat as modern physicists understand it, will be left. Indeed, you may convert energy into heat, but you may never destroy energy, only God can do that. Of course, most people will get used to this, and for these people the fact that the world is in a very rather dilapidated and degenerated state is just considered normal; disintegration and decomposition is just normal. All of this must be understood as significant indicators that, indeed, we are in the final days, but the finality in our days refer only to the fact that no other cyclical manifestation is possible, not the quantity of the days ahead, even though it is quite clear that the future is shrinking. Of course, shrinking as understood by the moderns is quite different in this context.
Life and death, this is the greatest extent to which most moderns are willing and capable; anything beyond this is outside their domain. Again, the world is ending, but for now I would suggest that it is enough to narrow the problem down to the end of modern civilization, as anything beyond this is simply unknown. Also, there are ways in which you may prepare for the end, and my post about shortwave radio is a good start; I would also suggest that you read my post "Should You Retire From the World?".
