Why I Don't Smoke |

I may come across as a hypocrite, which I am, whenever I write these blog posts, especially when I write about smoking, a subject I still keep returning to apparently, but there are many reasons why I choose not to smoke, but before I get into those, allow me to just again admit that I am a hypocrite, but so are you and everyone else on Earth; I can almost assure you that there has not been a single man walking this Earth that at some point did not contradict himself and his beliefs. So yes, to the extent that I do not smoke I am a hypocrite and I will stand for it without attempting to lie and manipulate, regardless of my reasons for choosing not to smoke, because the reasons, while they may matter, are actually not important when we consider someone a hypocrite, and yes again I am that someone, a hypocrite in this case. Also, I am still a hypocrite, while I have advocated the benefic side of smoking in many multiple posts about this subject, it is also the case that I, and anyone else, can advocated for something without also having to embrace that something, but this also does not mitigate the fact that I am at least a hypocrite in spirit, because it would be far better, at least in theory, if I was a smoker that advocated the benefits of smoking, but then again this would perhaps only be true from the point of view of the populist horde, because it is all too fitting to placate to the loud demands of supposedly "ordinary people". I guess that it is indeed true to say that two things can be true at once, but the populist worldview of most moderns is far too narrow to allow them to conceive of this possibility, read "Ideological Indoctrination".

    Then there are of course material reasons as well that someone could choose to not smoke, but I will perhaps return to those later, and I must add now that there are no seemingly supra-human reasons to smoke either; really, to me smoking is not a matter of the supra-human order, but it is a matter of the material domain and its many infantile disorders. I mean, is it not funny that politicians seek to ban people from smoking while at the same time advocating that people should be free to engage in all sorts of activities that just as well end up hurting them? Why should it be illegal for a man to not wear his seat belt whenever he is out driving? It seems to me that a man is free to die in a car accident if that is what he chooses to do. Now, most people will then turn to something completely different when they defend this law, often saying that people must wear seat belts because they may end up being thrown out of the car and hurt someone else, something that seems rather unlikely, and then there is the argument that because the government, read "My Views On the State as a Function of the Decay of Modernity", is paying for the "cleanup work" after the accident, people should be forced to wear seat belts. Of course, the fact is this: whether or not someone is wearing a seat belt or not, they are going to very likely be killed in a car accident, and now that the government has decided to pay for the cleanup job, I guess they are out of luck? Ha ha ha ha! I am of course being facetious here, but the overall point still stands: most people are hypocrites and because of this they will treat different issues differently depending on their preference and their feelings, read "Preferences".

    Now, I mentioned material reason as to why I have decided to not smoke, but I must rephrase the whole premise: it is not that I have chosen to not smoke; I do not smoke because the default is to not smoke, which means that there is no decision being made here; you cannot argue that I have decided anything since I, as well as all other humans, are not born smokers. No, you become a smoker because you develop an addiction, and a quite expensive addiction, and quite frankly too, I do not wish to "develop" an addiction, read "What is Addiction?". So yes, I am not a smoker and why should I be? Also, as I mentioned above, it is getting more and more expensive to smoke anyways, because the government, in most countries, have decided to put extra taxes on cigarettes in order to discourage people from smoking. It is funny to me, that the government can do this to cigarettes, but they have no trouble being hypocritical about this point either, as they certainly do not only put taxes on Heroin or other addictive substances; instead these same governments, for the most part, go the extra mile to make Heroin illegal, read "Are Imagination Enhancers Good?". Now, I could argue about the hypocrisy of the government for a long time, but the fact remains: I do not have to smoke in order to see through the lies and the manipulations, really the enormous fraud of modern governments, read "Temporal Power". But it really does annoy me to have to be called a hypocrite, because to what extent am I really a hypocrite? Yes, I admitted above that I was a hypocrite in spirit, but in spirit only, because really I am not a functional hypocrite since I have no reason to smoke. I do not need to smoke to survive, again understand that two or more things can be true at once, and that sometimes multiple things are true at different times and not true at other times: because some things, two or more, happen to be true at time t1, this also does not mean that they have to be true at time t2; really, two things can coexist and coincide without also having to always coexist or always coincide, because here in life, here in this place called the world, things do actually depend and sometimes life does end up getting rather complicated, but, again, most people simply cannot live with this fact, and it does annoy me when they then turn around and complain about me being some kind of "hypocrite", as if they themselves where perfectly honest at every turn in life. At the end of the day, smoking is a habit or an addiction—depending on how you view it, and again here we may note that these two categories do not have to exclude each other or coexist for that matter—that someone decides to create, but it is not the case that that I have decided something in the negative; really, that suggestion would be absolutely preposterous. Now, in this post I will make no further claims about the health aspects of smoking; if you want to find out more about that, then you will have to read about that in my previous posts, or you may read about it somewhere else.
