Avoiding |

In life we often seek to avoid uncomfortable truths and conditions, and this can often go so far as to create within us a kind of insanity, mostly because our attempts of avoiding the inevitable, such as death, creates a kind of depersonalization, and so we become disconnected from nature, read "Disintegration". Really, there is also an individualism present in this anxiety and this struggle to avoid, because today people lead their lives as if they have no destiny, as if they have no role and no place in the universe, read "Hierarchy"; instead men are lead to believe that everything in this complete closed system, read "Modern Civilization", is within their reach, if they only bother to apply the correct mechanical procedures to get their, and so it is easy to put the blame on each individual for their faults, and conversely it is just as easy to praise each individual for their own genius. Now and of course, it is easy for most people to see that someone who is a "genius" did not become a genius on their own, and quite often people were simply born that way, but that same realization seldom applies the other way around: as soon as you can be blamed for a fault, you are almost entirely to blame, and above all it is your actions or the apparent lack of action on your behalf, that they, the system, cling onto and blame you for, as if your fate when compared to some vague notion of the whole is considered you have fallen short, and only you may bring yourself to this realization before action, even though these same people tend to praise above all action, or inaction depending on the situation of course. Since such an approach to the world and to life in general is destined to fail and create much and anticipated sorrow, people conclude on their own that they must resolve their faults somehow, and since they are unable to accept their place in the world, mostly because they have been robbed of that place, they instead go onto to avoid most of what actually brings any kind of worthwhile meaning to their lives – they become zombies that are only able to react against "triggers" that reminds them of their failed condition, much alike a cancerous cell floating around in the bloodstream. Now, some may say that all of this is due to the apparent lack of community on the world, and this observation does hold true if we only concern ourselves with function: if our only goal is to function within the current paradigm, then yes the apparent lack of community that most people feel in the "developed" world would be the main cause of this, and for most people I suppose this would be enough. Now, the problem is much larger than merely lacking a community, but if people are to heal, they could always embrace some kind of community in order to find a place, albeit a artificial and maybe even virtual place; I suppose this still is better than the complete lack of standing in the world that many of these people feel, if they feel at all. I suppose as well that it is true that the industrial revolution has profoundly disrupted traditional societies and caused much upheaval, and indeed is continuing to cause great upheaval in the world, especially in the so-called "third" world, but let us also not dismiss the fact that the mutation of the old revolution still lives on in the form of the ever growing service oriented economy, which itself has disrupted the old-new order if you will.
Is this all that economy and materialism is: a great avoiding? Now quite, because most of these adverse developments did not happen out of spite and the certainly did not happen for the most part because people sought to disrupt the "old way of life"; instead these things did occur slowly over the generations, and as each generation proceeded from higher principles towards lower, the mutation was allowed to go on, the original sin as Christians would put it, and create further cracks in the wall, read "The Eschatology of the Kali Yuga". Some people would also suggest that modern economies are predicated on conflict and really the tension between dispersant interests, again this is a completely material analysis, and this could be referred to as a kind of deterritorialization and conversely a territorialization of the material and human landscape. While this in particular is a Marxist analysis of the economy, it appears to hold true when we consider the closed system of the world, for what appears to be a so-called "win-win" transaction always leaves behind itself a third part, the part that is conveniently forgotten about, the great shadow, really the consequences felt by everyone else impacted by this transaction, which translates into the whole, if we can speak of a whole in the modern world.* While most people may fail to conceive of this "avoiding", it is actually the case that most people avoid the shadow, and so whatever the effects that this monster has had on the world is, most people simply refuse to see the effect, and when they attempt to conceive of the effect and its consequences, they are only able to do this in the purview of the current and closed system.
I gather that most people will struggle to understand what I am referring to here, so allow me to make it clearer: when someone is trying to quit an addiction, for instance, they would first blame themselves for their addiction, almost completely, and only then would they be able to move on from the addiction, when they have somehow enabled themselves to run away from their past, as if their past no longer has any connection to the present, and as if they are now born again. Now, this sounds great in theory, again provided that we only consider the closed system of mechanism, but in practise whatever it was that caused the addiction in the first place has not been made to disappear, instead release from addiction has only been completed by aversion to past, some portion of the past; really by avoiding has this addiction been "defeated", and often addictions are not even considered defeated and cured by profane science; instead they have adopted the term "remission" to further underscore the tension involved here. Yes, it may seem like a "win-win" situation: here a man walks free from his addiction, and the therapist just earned another buck and created a business in the economy. At least you must consider these points.
